TWL EMPLOYEE SUSAN TAKES PART IN ‘RACE FOR LIFE’
10th March 2009
An East Lancashire woman who helps local unemployed people back into work is taking part in this year’s Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research.
Susan Banks, a Personal Guidance Advisor at TWL, Richmond Street, Accrington, will be raising money alongside daughter Lesley and granddaughter Jade, 16, at Witton Country Park, Blackburn.
The trio all know people who have either been affected or have died from the disease, including Lesley’s father, David, and want to raise money to help find a cure.
Susan, from Blackburn, said: “This is the first time I’ve done the Race for Life, Jade convinced me to do it so I then suggested all three of us do it as a family.
“Cancer is a terrible disease. The treatment of it is excruciating for the sufferers, and some of them unfortunately do not make it through. Almost everyone I know has been affected by it in some way or another, and we are determined to raise as much money as possible.
“My colleagues at TWL have been extremely supportive and have already sponsored me. However, I’ve told them it will be more like a ‘walk’ than a ‘race’ considering I’ve never done anything like this before. If I am not in work the following day, they’ll find me still in Witton Park!
Christine Thompson, TWL Centre Manager for Accrington, said: “Susan is really popular with learners and her colleagues at TWL.
“We are all right behind her and wish her the very best of luck in the Race for Life – she’ll be fantastic. “
