New drivers intending to work professionally must now obtain the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence or Driver CPC. Everyone involved in road transport who operate vehicles for hire and reward must demonstrate evidence of professional competence, in compliance with the Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981. This act implements European Union (EU) Directive 74/561, Article 3.
The Certificate is awarded to those who have completed four hours of theory and two hours of practical tests. The tests can be taken in the different modules.
