We did it…so can you!
Ricky Wood, 20
“When I got my GCSE results I was really unsure of what to do next, I was lacking in confidence and direction. I would tell anyone who hasn’t got the grades they were looking for not to worry. I have taken a less traditional route, but it has definitely worked for me. I have achieved exactly what I set out to do and am now going on to do my NVQ Level 3 Management qualification.”

If you’re unsure what direction to take in your career, don’t worry. There’s lots of support available, and people like Ricky have shown that with determination you can achieve your dream career.
When Ricky picked up his GCSE results he was disappointed to find her had achieved just one GCSE. His hard work and motivation has now paid off and his achievements are an inspiration to others.
Left with low self esteem and unsure of his own abilities, Ricky didn’t know what avenue to go down in order to get his life back on track. Not one to dwell on disappointment, Ricky decided to embark on a course with the Prince’s Trust, who then signposted him to TWL Training, where he discovered the entry to employment (e2e) programme.
Through e2e, Ricky has gone from strength to strength and is proof that there is an alternative route to success after GCSEs. Ricky has always liked the idea of working in a kitchen and through his work placement as a chef, he was able to gain both experience and qualifications. As well as building his confidence and interpersonal skills, Ricky has successfully completed his full framework of qualifications including Basic Food Hygiene, Health and Safety and NVQ Level 2 in Catering and Hospitality. Ricky is thoroughly enjoying his work at First 4 Kids Nursery and his future is looking bright.

Sometimes you just need a helping hand to get your career on the right track. Lee has worked hard under the guidance of TWL Training to master the art of the job application process, consequently landing the role of Quality Control Materials Tester at CRP, which provides buoyancy products, technical mouldings, insulation and industrial materials for the marine and offshore oil and gas industries.
Lee has gone on to successfully complete his Apprenticeship in Business Administration at Levels 2 and 3. These accomplishments are a particular triumph for Lee as he struggled to get to grips with completing job application forms and interview techniques, so received additional training from TWL before being successfully recruited by CRP.
Sam Gross, 20
“I’ve definitely caught the learning bug. It’s been hard work, but I’ve had lots of support from TWL Training all the way through.” One of the best things about an Apprenticeship is the opportunity to learn practical skills in the workplace that you can then put into practice in your job.
